Wonderful tune: Purphy's jig.

I found this wonderful tune called Purphy’s Jig (NOT Murphy’s Jig!) on the Wandering Whistler archives http://www.tinwhistler.com/music/sheet.asp?code=purphys_jig

I was wondering if anyone knows of a decent recording of it on the net or on an album. I’m trying to get away from sheet music ya’ know, and midis really aren’t the best!

The only two google results for “purphy’s jig” are for the wandering whistler and a broken link. Not even a reference to a album. How annoying.

Huh. Don’t hear 6/8 rythms like that in trad much. At least I havn’t. Nice.

It does sound rather like part of a symphonic band peice, I think.

Edit: Sounds really nice on low whistle. I might refamiliarize myself with sax or steal one of my mom’s flutes to give it a shot on.

Tha’s what I was thinking. More of a rythm you run into in a setting where everbody reads music and such.

Or it may just be the epitome of good old drunken tune-warping.

Brian Finnegan (Flook) wrote that tune. You can find it on his CD “When the Party’s Over”. Smallpiper Kathryn Tickell also does it on the CD “Signs” (Kathryn Tickell Band) and couples it with anothe Finnegan Jig “Donegal Lasses”.
