Recently it started making odd noises when it runs so I called several shops to get quotes on repairs. At $80/hr bench time, it’s easier just to get a new one so I have one heading my way, same exact motor.
I had the old one wired for me with an on/off switch, plus a reversing switch. These are on a junction box that the repair guy mounted right to the back end of the motor. Turns out I don’t really need reverse. What I’d like to do with the new one is run a wire with an on/off switch to a junction box mounted safely at the front end of my work bench, eliminating the dangerous reach OVER the lathe to turn it on and off. Naturally, a power cord would come off the back and into the outlet.
There are a lot of wires in the installed junction box, but most of them to to the reversing switch. Is this just as simple as connecting the power leads to the two motor leads, and cutting a switch into the hot wire? Wiring diagram here:
