Winter

So is it just my imagination or does it feel like the days are getting longer?

Speaking to an international crowd here, you have to qualify that query a little bit, don’t you?

Nope, that’s what happens after the solstice. That was on the 22nd, at 5:30 am or thereabouts. I noticed it too. It does seem to be marked, this year.

'Bout time to open the pool, eh?

Doug can correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe he was referring to such of our readership as might be living in Australia or Chile.

By about 2 millisecond every hundred years.

Now you’re going to tell me that one man’s Samhain is another man’s Bealtaine.

I suppose that’s another discussion.

Actually I haven’t felt that the days are getting longer, although, since I live in the northern hemisphere, I know that the days do actually get a little bit longer each day as we pass the Winter solstice. However, for our friends in the summer hemisphere, as our days are getting longer, their days are getting shorter, which comes as no big surprise. So, as I mentioned earlier, the OP needed to qualify his query for it to make worldwide sense.

You want to know something weird? I coulda sworn the days were getting longer before the solstice. I had to keep double-checking the calendar.

The thread title says “Winter.” What season is it in the Southern Hemisphere?

Yes, but the title box and the content line are separated by a grey area which muddles the connection.

It’s sorta blue-grey or is that blue-gray. Here’s some greys.

Here’s some blue greys.

I don’t think that the Grays do the blues that well…

Thanks for picturing the color samples. I love colors. One of the gifts that I gave my wife for Christmas was a rather large box containing 200 x 300 meter spools of quilting thread, all different colors. So you name the color, and we have something close to it.

My wife gave me a used English-woven sport jacket that I actually purchased on ebay. On close inspection I see that there are a couple of minor places where the wool threads are broken (probably eaten by moths). So I will need some wool thread of the precise color to do the repair weaving, this from an ample supply of colored yarn. I will also need to lose a few pounds if I hope to comfortably button the jacket.

By the way, I’m glad that the days are getting longer. I feel like we are over the hump, and it’s all downhill from here.
