We’ll need more info. Is this true of only one file, or is the rest of
your lichen collection similarly affected? What kind of file are you
trying to play? Or are you playing a DVD? Or do you mean that
you have sound but absolutely nothing is on your screen, like, say
when you haven’t plugged the monitor in…
As you can see, you really haven’t told us that much about your
problem…
Some files are saved in a wma or wmv format, but are only audio content. In these cases you obviously wouldn’t see anything but a black screen in WMP. Do you see anything in the picture window such as noise, stuttering, error messages, or anything that would lead you to suspect that there is a picture to this file? I have also found that sometimes my mailbox will eat or mangle some video files if the size of the file is pushing my mailbox to maximum capacity.
Speaking of audio-only wmv files, someone sent me one recently of a recording of an old woman calling a 911 emergency line. She is screaming in apparent terror because the mailman has collapsed onto her floor. The operator is trying to get her to explain what is happening. Between the woman’s screams and the operator’s continued questioning, the story eventually unfolds that the woman gave the mailman a lottery ticket as a gift and that the mailman had won.
The operator guesses that the mailman has suffered a severe shock, maybe even a heart attack. He asks the woman if the mailman is still breathing. She checks and starts screaming again that the mailman is, indeed, still breathing. There is a loud clanging noise. The old woman again starts screaming that the mailman is still breathing. There is a clang again. The operator asks her what the source of that clanging noise is. She is screaming and sobbing as she replies that the noise is coming from the skillet, but the mailman still won’t let go of the ticket.
it’s totally strange, there is no nothing on the wmp, only sound. WMA doesn’t work, neither does mpeg. But, if I open the files with quicktime, they work. so, is this a codec problem, or whatever that’s called?
cheers gary, will try that as soon as I get home.
oh, the problem arose (arised?) just recently, perhaps it’s got to do with the use of my ‘easycleaner’…?
