Willie Week pictures 2013

Most years I post a pic thread with a selection of photos taken at the Willie Clancy Summer School. I intended to take a break from it this year, attending the concerts and lectures takes up a lot of time during the week and as West Clare is basking in a once in a decade stretch of summer weather outside is probably the better place to be.

Last night I walked into the fiddle concert, the hall was packed, as usual on fiddle night, and even before things got underway the heat and humidity in the hall was thoroughly offputting. I didn’t stay, I had been playing all afternoon myself and needed fresh air.

The whistle and flute concert tonight wasn’t as busy at the start so I hung around and shot a few snaps. Anyhow, I have put up a few. Usually I update the slideshow with new shots every day as long as the school is on, I may do that again this year, as I take more pics. No promises though, the weather is just too nice and it would be a shame to let it go to waste while we have it.

There are some of us who really appreciate the photos from such a valuable and historical event. Thank you for posting. Weather matters aside, it would be a shame if no photo documentation was made of the event. Lost history.

Besides, how are we going to know everyone’s name…

Nice! Thanks, Mr. G.

Always a pleasure to take a peek at your photos.

Thanks.

Mr. Gumby, I too really appreciate your photos, every year.

Me too! Thanks for taking and posting them.

I join the quire and send appreciation for the effort taking pics!

Thanks all. On a second look they’re nicer than I thought last night. Added a few sessionscenes at the start and some bits at the end. Shots from the piping concert going on late tonight. Scorching here.

Nice addition to the pics… pipers.

And its scorching from here viewing them.

Well done Mr. Gumby. Thanks for the great images.

Very very nice, you have a real talent, an excellent eye for composition and character.

Have you ever published? A nice large format “coffee table” book, the theme could be Willie Week, or Irish Musicians, would be lovely.

Thanks so much for sharing those!

BTW it was cool to see a few of the old-school people playing what appeared to be Generations.

Yessir, thank you for sharing such wonderful photos.

Don’t go over the top now lads.

I skipped the accordion concert and the dance exhibition, it was just too hot on thursday. Friday cooled down a bit and was very pleasant and I took snaps at the lunchtime piping recital, the singing concert, the harmonica recital and the concertina concert with scenes from the street in between. A good day and I just uploaded a large selection of today’s pics.

Nice update pics today. And it must’ve been a lot more comfortable for everyone weatherwise.

I made the last additions to the slideshow on saturday night, after the closing concert. Once Cór Cuil Aodha has sung Mo Ghile Mear at the end of the concert, the week really is over. There was a bit of music here and there on sunday afternoon and people selling stuff in the street in most pubs people were watching the match.

Anyhow, I added pics from the concert and stuck a few others in between, changed a few I didn’t like for better images (that microphone touching Conal O Ghrada’s nose in the pic was a major irritant). Music in town will probably continue for the rest of the week and indeed the rest of the summer but as far as this thread is concerned, this is the end of it.

Hope you enjoyed the pics.
