Wilkes 6 key Pratten for sale

There’s a Wilkes 6-key Pratten for sale on thesession.org just now:

“This flute was made for Jean-Michel Veillon around 1995. I bought it from him in 2000. I was going to sell it a year or so ago, but Jean-Michel took it back for a while and I bought his Wilkes Rudall instead… Now it is REALLY for sale!”

“Chris Wilkes’ waiting list is now 10 years, and this kind of flute is well over $5,500 if you can find one. It is in perfect condition and was recently “tuned up” by Stéphane Morvan. Price is $4,000. This is a quite firm price for now. If it doesn’t move very quickly, I lower it a bit. I’m selling it because and in my old age, the Wilkes Rudall is easier to play (though not as powerful!), and I do not need two very good flutes.”

It looks like JMV moved to Morvan flutes and Jezequel flutes for ever.
This Pratten Wilkes was played by JMV as the main flute in the CD “Er Pasker”, a brilliant work. It is very remarkable the change of the tone and voice of the flute when he passed to play mainly the Wilkes Rudall model in the recordings after that one (Beo!, for instance). Er Pasker is the transition from the direct, big and prattenesque sound of the young JMV to a more sofisticated and full of nuances style supported by the Rudall Wilkes.
