A friend in the UK has a 5key Wilkes flute in Bb for sale. (It is not my own, which I just acquired recently and really like, so I’m keeping mine!)
Excellent condition. Blackwood. Sterling.
If interested (seriously, please) email me off list at

Crap! I just realized I never replied to you last PM, G. - very sorry dude!
Heh, heh, I knew you’d find the Wilkes Bb an interesting item.
What am I making? Geeze, like 10 different things at once, that’s sort of how we do things at the shop: We’ve been finishing up some awesome sounding Terton sopranos, very sweet. Nice Rippert Sopranos as well. I just polished up a couple of Grenser flutes to ship off early today, and Pat finished up an ornately carved solid Ivory Denner Alto last week. I’ll likely be gundrilling Rippert and Stansby Alto parts for the rest of this week, along with repairs.
Now if I could only find time to work on an “irish” flute for myself! Making reamers is a frickin PITA
Yes, awfully silly of him to up and die in 1843.
Nothing but poor planning, by God!
What else could one expect from the patentee of a keyless flute at the turn?
I bet his brother JJ planned better. At least he left us a treatise!
(Please, everyone, I sincerely hope you wrote that all down! There will be a quiz)
Just AMAZING how much useless, impertinent information there is out there, isn’t it?
Makes us wanna barf whenever it shows up without rhyme or reason.
Oh, why not…
The point, dear David, which may have been picked up by the brighter members of the forum( if not youself ) is that Loren might consider buying -in reamers as did some at least of the 19th century flutemakers.
Loren, that is awesome. A short but long way from Boulder Colorado, my man. I am delighted for you, but I have to admit that I know squat about recorders.
As for me? I have to say I don’t have so much time to practice flute these days. Just a bit on the weekends now. I just moved back to Shanghai, and most the time I am travelling all over Asia and once a month to US or Europe. All just fast and furious travel. No time or energy for much personal time here.
I am however starting to go to India more. That is one incredible place, I tell you. The intensity is like nothing I’ve experienced elsewhere.
I thaught it looked rather chewed up.
Why do you think I should have to keep buying Rudalls? That is your obsession, Migoya.
There are more interesting things in the world for those who are not anally retentive.
