I’ve been holding Coldplay tickets for a concert scheduled for tonight in Birmingham for, I dunno, 8 years or something. Now, I hear on the radio that they’ve cancelled. These guys are sissies.
It better be good. We saw Danu last month with their Bodhran player (broken leg) and they still stayed on the beat. Saw Dervish last year - flute guy was gone (dental problems) and the stand-in did just fine.
If Birminham has power and half the band can walk, they should play.
By the way, did you mean sissies because they are not hardy or was is sexual preference reference. Doesn’t some current movie suggest that liking Coldplay suggests one is gay?
It really better be. I’m only disappointed, as are my 2 daughters and one of their boyfriends. But, you know, this is a big enough band that people will travel here and some will come tonight from out ot state not even knowing they cancelled the morning of. So, unless lead singer-boy is in surgery right now…
I’d honestly not even heard of them until the last year or so…but then again, I dont listen to much raido…radio sux.
And for the record, I’m not that impressed with them either…
Cold Play is the sanitized, radio friendly version of Radiohead. It’s like Radiohead without the expiremental aspect, which is really the whole appeal of Radiohead in the first place.
And apparently they is sissies as well, not that it was unexpected.
I have a few Radiohead albums, and I find them… fine.
Oh, and if anyone is looking for some of the strangest and most beautiful music you’ve ever heard, I’d suggest Joanna Newsom. She’s a classically-trained harpist who uses African rhythms and patterns, and incorporates an Appalachian texture. And she has an odd singing voice. And her songwriting ability is remarkable.
Definitely worth a listen. But it’s really neither here nor there in this discussion…
All too true. I’d given up on radio millennia ago. BUT: a recent ray of light in the Twin Cities metro and surrounding area: 89.3 FM, aka The Current. Sponsored by Minnesota Public Radio, they play EVERYTHING. I mean it. Aural salad. Not only the newish stuff (which I like, just not at the expense of all else), but Johnny Cash, yes, Radiohead too, the Stones, Appalachian music, ethnic stuff, and even Marlene Freakin’ Dietrich singing that gawdawful “Follingk In Lov Aghenn”. Even the occasional hiphop is reasonably palatable, dare I say, although I’m still not a convert. It’s radio in its diversity as I remember it from back when the Earth’s crust was cooling. Suffice it to say that I’m listening to the radio lately. OK, I’ll stop gloating now.
