I have finally decided between two of my favourite pipers,
who I think is the best Craner, I’m afraid Sean Potts had to take second Place, and I decided to give the title Cachet Craner to no other than Tommy Keane, The Dusty Miller/The Silver Slipper/Willie’s Fling, From his CD The Pipers Apron track 10, Craning at its best, What can one say, Yes! Class in a Glass~Guinness~Magic. 
I go for Johnny McSherry playing on “The Floating Crowbar” on Luansa’s second record. SWEET!
How well they sound on a CD is all well and good, and who knows how many takes they had to get it just right, but for sheer “machine gun” sounding crans, Sean Og Potts, doing it live, is #1 in my book.
I heard him in several venues at the SFO Tionol in 2001, both during classes, then at a house session at 3:00 AM, then in concert, then at a weekend-closeout at the “Plough & Stars” pub, and everytime he’d hit them, they were the same - that same, consistent ‘machine gun sound’.
Sean Og Potts, hands down.
Oh, yes - and the rest of his piping is nothing if not inspirational.
I think it’s spelled “cranner,” unless all of the above work on construction sites.

If I’m not mistaken, the set he was playing at the 2001 SFO Tionol was a recently-received Rogge set, inclusive of the chanter.
