"Altman’s key-chain fob was a TV-B-Gone, a new universal remote that turns off almost any television. The device, which looks like an automobile remote, has just one button. When activated, it spends over a minute flashing out 209 different codes to turn off televisions, the most popular brands first.

For Altman, founder of Silicon Valley data-storage maker 3ware, the TV-B-Gone is all about freeing people from the attention-sapping hold of omnipresent television programming. The device is also providing hours of entertainment for its inventor.

Now that does sound like fun, though like with lots of jokes it’s only fun to the one who’s pulling it. :angry:

I will say that my husband and I had one prenuptial agreement: not to have a TV. For us, and for our family, it has made a wonderful difference.

'Course, we all act like zombies when we’re anywhere that somebody has one playing, because we have no immunity built up. :laughing: Oh well.

Brilliant invention. Think of the fun to be had in bars and restaurants where they have those huge rotboxes up on the wall, spewing sportsbabble at maximum volume to the detriment of anyone trying to converse… stick this little gadget in my purse…no one would be any the wiser. As fast as they turned it back on, I’d turn it back off. And so on. Hehe. :wink:
