WhOA - it's in our brain ...

All of you, who suffer from WhOA as bas as I do, read this … http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4101931.stm

O dear, it’s not the whistles, it’s the bloody frontal lobe :astonished: !

Claus (just having a quick check of his frontal whatsoever … )

How fascinating–thank you!

The best part is the collection of reader comments after the end of the article.

…People who hoard apparently useless items…

Certain of my family members might agree.

Interesting article, thanks for posting it.

I may be a borderline hoarder. For example, I never throw away a non-spam email, though I do often convert them to another format to unclog my mail program. I also tend to keep old magazines, tools, and such. However, I did manage to get rid of quite a few 15-to-20-year-old books on ancient computers and programming languages (Programming the Motorola 6800 and 6502, Inside AppleTalk, Programming With OpenDoc, Setting FORTH, etc.), so I know I’m not being completely irrational about it.

The various comments at the bottom are every bit as interesting as the article itself. I thought that the comment by Andrew, London, UK was a bit naive:

“Every human being has both logic and emotion as part of their make-up. Hoarding and OCD exist when the emotional facets of the brain are given supremacy and logic gets ignored. By strengthening the logical part of the mind, these problems can be overcome. Exercises like completing to-do lists for simple daily jobs (ticking off each task as it gets done) can strengthen the logical and sequential part of the mind. Follow small and consistent steps, until the logical part of the mind gains control.”

It’s interesting to see how someone who has never experienced a true compulsive disorder (like those who have only ever owned one whistle) just don’t get what the word “compulsive” means.

“Mommy, Mommy! I wanna be a Vulcan when I grow up!”

I still have my 6502 books. Maybe someday day I’ll build a 32-bit 65xx system http://www.westerndesigncenter.com/wdc/

Just remember that there is method behind the madness.

I also keep a few of the whistles I made years ago just see how things are relatively progressing
