The Sunset Hornpipe

iv’e just been revisiting this strange and wonderful tune , that i first heard in maybe 1980 or so .
Frankie played it like a dream . love it .

so , anyone know who made it ?

and did it ever go by another name ?
the name i got for it then , ( and i was probably more gullible then , than now ..) was , Robert Emmet’s Space Rocket .

never hear it played in session , and i get the impression that it was considered a joke tune ( as in , not to be taken seriously , not a real part of the tradition )
so , as i was saying , who made it ?

I think it’s a reel, actually. Cathal McConnell and Seamus Quinn get the credit. Cheers,

Rob

thanks for that , Rob .

i’ve just tried it as a hornpipe , and the steps fit ok .
iv’e always understood it to be a hornpipe , and a bit like the páistín fionn ,or the lament for president garfield , it hovers between the two time steps .

i must check it out with Mr Mac , down at the Willie Warmer , next month .
