thanks,tansy

Hi Tanzy, Michael Copeland designed your sweetone fipple, the others I dont know but suspect many prefer anonymity for fear of retribution. Mike

Yes, you know I think it’s remarkable
that Michael Copeland designed the sweetone
fipple/mouthpiece. Largely explains
the success of those whistles, IMHO. Concerning Copeland
whistles themselves, I believe Michael
once made jewelry; also he was an apprentice
organ pipe maker–the mouthpieces of Copelands look like jewelry (the fipple
piece is set like a stone), also like
organ pipes. On another front,
Chris Abell acknowledges that he was
partly inspired by Susato whistles,
and the mouthpiece of Abells, though
different in material and design (e.g. the absence
of the underlip on the Susato) is not
unreminiscent of the Susato mouthpiece.

A last crossfertilization comment:

Susato makes great, inexpensive plastic
thumbrests in different sizes (and colors)
which fit Copeland low Ds, Copeland Gs,
Water Weasel As and Bbs, Overton low Ds.
These have made my life easier. They’re
available over the the Susato website (see
Dale’s review of Susato whistles).

I’ve never had any use for the thumbrests myself. They just get in my way. They’re all in a drawer somewhere, I guess.

Just shows that what works for some doesn’t for others, I guess…
