Hi all,
Hol-Ry!
After leading a few training canoe trips for the new guides I’ve now returned from my first trip out on the water this season with the scouts. My first crew of the summer was all thirteen or fourteen year old boys (plus 2 adult advisors). They canoed/portaged 101 miles in 9 days; pretty good for guys their size. The boys all play music! They play oboe, trumpet (2), piano, saxophone, and trombone.
I’ve been bringing my Dixon with the brass tuning slide along, stored in a PVC pipe. They liked my playing.
When they were about to leave base on their way home they stopped by the trading post and four of them bought the bamboo whistles in C which are sold there. Ha! Poor advisors! The boys came out of the store and one of them figured out how to play Hot Cross Buns; then they all played it over and over. It’s a long way from Minnesota to New Mexico with just Hot Cross Buns, so I sat down with them and taught them Johnny Get Your Hair Cut, too.
