So, last night (Wednesday), there was a new episode of South Park where the boys are dressed up and roleplaying as characters from The Lord of the Ring. Cartman was, of course, Gandalf.
Anyhow, during two scenes, as the boys are traversing through South Park on their quest, one may clearly hear a penny-whistle playing the hornpipe “Off to California” in the background. It made my night!
It was yet another excellent, excellent episode of Southpark! This marks a new high for whistles in pop-culture.

I watched it and caught the whistle music also. Whistles Rule! Hysterical episode also. Esp. with Butter moaning… preeecciousss.

Don’t forget that there’s whistle music in just about every episode of Spongebob.
I’m not sure I want Spongebob making whistles more “respectable.” Only likely to lower too many people’s opinion of them if the fact became widely known.
At least locally, Comedy Central is about to show that episode of South Park again. Midnight mountain time.

Let the “what whistle is that?” arguments ensue! And someone tell me if it’s just my imagination or if they just looped a partial rendition of the A part. 
I love Sponge Bob! It’s one of the few shows that my 13-year-old son, my 4-year-old son and my 41-year-old self all agree on. Sponge Bob does not play the whistle, by the way. He plays his nose, which sounds surprisingly like a whistle.
As far as South Park goes, I wouldn’t let my kids watch that kind of trash…
So I have to wait until they go to bed to watch it myself!
Talking of South Park, this is one of the few TV shows that I prefer to watch translated in french! I usually watch tele in english, but the voices they are using for all of the characters are just hilarious, and there’s a few french-from-france expressions especially from Cartman that are just so funny in the South Park context.

This reminds me of something from back when I was a kid. We have relatives in Quebec that we used to visit on about a yearly basis. Once, we were watching the Flintstones in French. My ability to keep up with them was not great, although a could understand a fair amount, but what I remember most about it was Barney’s accent.
I seem to recall that he sounded quite debonair- a long cry from what one normally thought of him. It struck me as totally hilarious.
I don’t know why that has always stuck with me, but it has. Thanks for the reminder.

Eh, the Flinstones is a very good example, as it is another show that I prefered to watch in french, there’s just something so hilarious with the accent. The french-Simpsons is the other show that comes to mind, but there’s many jokes that just can’t be translated correctly, like the “is there a homer-sexual in the bar” joke.
So no one wanted the clip, eh? OK, I’ll reclaim the space the next time I see my online account. Which will be sometime next month.
