Whistles in Salsa/Womad UK(wolrd of music and dance)

I’ve just returned from the WOMAD festival in Reading London.I was invited there by Frazer Fifield who plays whistle in a band called Salsa Celtica. They have fused salsa with celtic music as the name suggests.
If you are into something a little different to do musically with whistles check the out.
They have CD’s and in september I will put up some clips on the kerrywhistle downloads section.Fantastic music and a great whistle player and a really nice guy.
Give them a listen if you can.
I’m off to Italy until 26th August so if you want to send any emails ,please wait until 26th august.
Enjoy your holidays,all the best
Phil.

“Reading, London”…did you get your Geography O Level Phil?!!

I stumbled across Salsa Celtica on my own. The Moscow Food Co-op has a display of stand of Putumayo CDs with a listening station built into it. Having hopelessly eclectic musical tastes, I listened to all of the samples. (I was most fascinated by North African Groove, a musical taste that caught me completely by surprise; http://www.putumayo.com/catalog/item.php?item_number=237-2 ), but I also found the sample of Salsa Celtica (check out track 1 on Salsa Around the World on the web page; http://www.putumayo.com/cd_global/salsa_around_the_world.html ) and was completely intrigued by how seamlessly they combined Scottish and Salsa sounds! At an impressionable age an upper class Hispanic helped raise me, but my family has strong roots in the British Isles, so their music sounds like something from the non-existent culture I feel like I come from! I found the Salsa Celtica web site; http://www.salsaceltica.com/ and am going to get their CD as soon as I get the chance.
