I used to own this Howard Low D, and I can tell you it’s a great whistle. Very responsive, easy to play into the upper octave(with the right breath control-less pressure), and a nice tone, good strong low end, and sweet high, with the unplated, solid brass tube.
That was with the old style head, and Toughknot bought the new head too, so apart from it being a great whistle, it’s now a great deal, too. Kind of like having two whistles with the two fipples.
I was seriously tempted to buy it back from him, but I just have to keep the reins taught, or I’ll slip back into collector mode, and not play them enough to have them all around! Actually, I wasn’t collecting them, I just bought a bunch of Low Ds to try them and see what I liked.
