Whistles For Sale, not engraved....

I imagine Rich won’t think any of these whistles is worth what I’m asking, however the following are for sale:

Rose Blackwood Soprano D - $300.

Water Weasel Soprano E - $55.

Water Weasel Bb - 60.

Water Weasel A - 60.

Overton Blue Anodised Soprano D (I have two, am selling one) - $140.00

Tweaked Clarkes in D and C - new $25. each, selling both for $35.

Clare Brass 2piece, Black Acorn D, and Waltons “American” whistle - all 3 as a package for $20.

Healy Cooktown Ironwood Keyless Irish Flute - perfect condition - New $1050.+, selling for $800.

I also have some Copelands I’d be willing to part with, but only for about 1.5x the retail price, if anyone just can’t deal with the waiting list.

All of the above are in excellent contidition. Any instruments that don’t sell in the next few days will be listed on ebay later this week.

If you have questions, or need photos, please use my e-mail link rather than leaving a note here.

Finally, I just thought I’d mention: Killer Bees are chasing me, Dingo’s ate my pet hamster, and I only have three weeks to live…so please buy my whistles.

Thanks,

Loren
(No, I’m not returning, however I thought I’d offer some of my whistles here before listing them on ebay, just for old time’s sake.)

P.S. You know, I honestly thought (and sincerely hoped) that if I left the message board, the whole sickening thread would die off, guess I was wrong…

P.P.S So Tony, have you figured out who Porridge is YET? If you have something worth trading I’ll spill the beans, screw honor and ethics, that got me no where on this message board.

Yup, the “sickening thread” is still there but it has mutated. Come back and have some fun.

Mary

Yep, we managed to turn it from a flamewar into a esoteric discussion over a famous female whistler’s… uh… attributes?

Not to forget hunky Irish boys!

Mary

hey Loren, we still love ya, baby!
dave

Hey Loren,
If you are not around who will I be able to ask for sound, honest, experienced advice on the attributes of various whistles???
By the way…2 anodized blue Overtons!?
I have a blue anodized modal on order - do you find that the anodizing process changes the way a whistle plays/sounds?
See…I need you, so don’t leave!
Sue

C’mon back Loren…
the sickening thread has a life of it’s own and the children will be starting college in the fall… no one has died and gas prices are stable.
I honestly never got into the Porridge thread so I have no emotion about it.
The only thing I have to trade are some 30+ year old recorders I had stashed away that I have no desire to keep.

Yeah, c’mon back Loren,

We do miss you. You make a unique contribution!

Vinny

Heya Loren,

I imagine you won’t be answering, but I’ll ask my question anyway. Why are you selling the Rose whistle? I remember reading great reviews from you (I think!) and from what I’ve read this is supposed to be the most amazing of whistles. I don’t believe in this myself, since I’ve seen so much hype on whistles I didnt care to play when I had a chance to try them, but still, the Rose sounds like a unique whistle…

I forgot to mention in my original post that I will pay USPS ground shipping and insurance to any U.S. destination. Other modes of shipping, or shipping outside the U.S. is fine, but would cost extra.

Sue,

Hope you have fun with that Modal when it arrives, I’ve not had the chance to try one yet!

Regarding the anodising, I have 4 anodised Overtons, and I don’t think it changes the sound at all. It may help decrease clogging a little (as the inside of the windway does get anodised a bit I think), but that’s really hard to measure objectively, and I don’t have much trouble with Overtons clogging anyway.

Azalin,

I’m selling the Rose (and my other whistles, some of which will only be available on e-bay) because I can’t justify having so much money tied up in a hobby I’m not so enthusiasic about any more. I still enjoy playing now and then, and I plan to keep the majority of my Overtons and few other favorites, but the rest will be sold.

The Rose is in fact one of the best sounding soprano whistles I’ve ever played. It is the sweetest sounding for sure. However, I can only justify having so many D whistles, and the one I’m keeping for sure is my Madagascar Rosewood Abell -part of the set I bought from Chris Laughlin (now also gone from the message board).

While the Rose is sweeter sounding than the Abell, I find the Abell more “Goof Proof”, and since I make plenty of mistakes in my playing as it is, I’ll take all the help I can get  Truth be told, if I could have my wish, I’d have a whistle that played like the Abell with the sweet sound Rose. Alas, that’s just a dream, so in the mean time I’ll be saying goodbye to my Rose D, and my Copeland Nickel D, and one of my Overton Soprano D’s, and probably even my custom made, French lacquer finished (never needs oiling) Bird’s Eye Maple Thin Weasel, not to mention lots of whistles in other keys.

Hope that answers your question, Az.

Finally, to those of you who posted or wrote to me: Thanks for the kind words, (and I sincerely apologize to those folks who sent e-mail and didn’t get a reply), I really do appreciate the encouragement, but the time really has come for me to move on.

Thanks again and hopefully the whistles will all find nice loving homes.

Loren

Let’s see, you’ve got three weeks to live…will the prices go down in 20 days? Kidding; good to hear from you. All the best, Philo

Loren,

Thanks for the comparative review of Abell/Rose. Quite interesting. I hope that one of these days I’ll be able to play the two of them and compare myself… Eh, why don’t you try not to get this board too seriously, and come from time to time and have a blast! I understand your frustrations, but you really have to handle this board on a second degree, or else you’d go crazy. What really counts is what you do in between the visits, like playing a too-loud Copeland, or a squeeking Susato, or an out-of-tune McHaffie!

The Healy flute is spoken for, Thanks.

Welcome back Loren.

Steve

The Rose and the Water Weasel A are spoken for. (Sorry Vinny)

Steve,

I’m not really back, but thanks for kind words.

Az,

I’d love to be able to take everything here lightly, unfortunately I’m simply not wired that way. PTSD is an ugly thing…
Funny crack at the end of your last post, heh, heh.

Phil O.,

Good to hear from you man. I have a snappy comeback to your price reduction comment, but I better not pen it here lest I start “It’s Sickening 2”, if you get my drift.

The Little Weasel is sold! (That’d be the High E)

Loren

Loren - Even if you give up whistling, do not disappear from our lives. Take care. Philo

The Tweaked Clarkes have a new home.

Phil O.,

I’m not giving up playing whistles, just playing them less. And while I won’t be an active participant here in the future, my spirit will live on in the archives! (Okay, I can’t even believe I wrote that last bit of nonsense…)

Loren

“… my spirit will live on in the archives!”
Sheesh, what happened Loren, did you find $20 on the sidewalk??

Tony,

I’m afraid I have to admit I must be getting dull in my old age (38 in a few weeks) because I didn’t get the joke: $20 on the sidewalk? Help me out here man, whistle collecting ate my brain…

Loren
