Whistleanddrum.com Grand Opening!!!

(The following has been approved by Dale)

Hey All! Well, after much hard work and late nights I’m pleased to announce the opening of Whistleanddrum.com this Friday night - time to be announced. Whistleanddrum.com specializes in fine whistles and bodhrans from around the world. All whistles and drums will include sound samples so you can listen before purchasing!

In the whistle category we will initially be offering whistles by Ian Lambe, Cillian O’Briain, Tony Dixon, Mack Hoover (A very special Whistleanddrum.com exclusive to be revealed…) and Glenn Schultz.

In the bodhran category we will initially offering bodhrans from Kevin O’Connell (UK), Norbert Eckermann (Austria) and Robert Forkner (Metloef Irish Drums).

In addition to fine whistles and bodhrans, we also have a “Previously Loved” section where one might find a rare whistle, bodhran or two…or three!

We will of course have Tune Books, Tutorials (Books, CDs & Videos) as well as other accessories ranging from custom leather cases and “Whistle Wraps” to Jessie’s Whistle Pendants to Tippers, etc… You will even be able to purchase the “Amazing Slow Downer” from our site. In the near future we will also be carrying “Essential Recordings” recommended by some of today’s top trad. musicians…

Well, that’s about it… Just wanted to give the heads up!

You can click on our logo below to see our fun Flash intro page!

Peace,

Hi Blayne

I tried clicking on the bodhran in the nice graphic but nothing happened!

MarkB

How 'bout in intro that doesn’t require the right version of flash for the other 40% of the Internet?

That intro is UNBELIEVABLY COOL!!!

Hmm… about the flash compatability… I’ll ask our web developer…

Jessie - Glad you like it!

Peace,

Neat! I can’t wait until you have the rest of your site up and running… (or until I can get to a computer that has flash on it so I can see the intro… )

Congrats on the new business, Blayne. If your entire operation is as cool as your opening logo, you’ll have a real hit on your hands. Paul

Flash has a number of problems. Users with older browsers may not be able to use flash at all, if you have the wrong version you can get partial loads but it won’t really work. Forcing continual upgrades of flash is a great way to blow up your browser in windoze and force and reinstall of the brower and maybe the OS. It also disallows text based browsing, indexing by large search sites like google and folks who need text due to sight problems.

Last I saw, you should assume that 40% of the Internet either can’t or won’t get the compatible version of flash. So, your choices are to blow off 40% of the Internet or have usable content that doesn’t require flash.

If your web designer insists that Flash is the way to go, find a new designer.

Mando..Wow… thanks for the info… Big can of worms I guess… There will be a “skip flash intro” option in the future…

Lots of things related to computers resemble the innards of an open can of worms.

A “skip flash intro” is always good. I’d also suggest that your basic http://www.whistleanddrum.com page have at least your store name, phone number and email such that any browser at all can get those. That way, they at least know how to reach you even if they can’t use much of the site.

Good luck with the store!

Blayne, I hope you’ll keep the flash intro for those of us that can see it. It’s GREAT!
I can hardly wait to see the rest of your site when it’s up and running.

You know I will! We worked hard on it! Thanks for the kind words…

Superb and engaging!-I like the continually moving eyes, fingers toes & beater besides the big toss. Do you plan to offer the Ian Lambe hybrid metal/wood flutes as well as his whistles?

At the moment, the only flutes we are offering are the Dixons… We may in the future carry Ian’s flutes…

This is fantastic Blayne. I can’t wait until it’s up and going and I can see all the goodies.

Besides the Halpin drum that’s on it’s way, I’m supposed to be getting one of the Robert Forkner (Metloef Irish Drums) by the first of the year. After Chris mentioned his drums, I checked out the website and couldn’t resist.

Sounds like you are going to have some really nice items. I look forward to your grand opening.

Wow Jim, sounds like you got bit by BOA!

Me, on the other hand, I just want to try a bunch of tippers…

Cool… I know you’re going to love your Bodhran! We have a 12" in stock (and a 14" coming) that’s really cool… The small size takes some getting used to…but allows for alot of tonal range…

Ian’s flutes? I thought it was Eugene Lambe who made the metal headpiece flutes…

Now Blayne,

You ARE coming to Tom’s party just a WEE bit up the road from you in about three weeks aren’t you?!?!?!

Brian~
