Whistle workshops with Debbie Quigley in Montreal March 28

Public service announcement:

Montreal’s Siamsa school of Irish music is putting on an evening of whistle workshops with Debbie Quigley.

Thursday March 28, 2002
At the Wesley United Church, 5964 NDG Avenue, Montreal (corner of Royal Avenue).

There will be three 1-hour workshops:
Beginners 6:30 - 7:30pm
Intermediate 7:45 - 8:45pm
Advanced 9:00 – 10:00pm

Admission $15 (Cdn) for as many levels as you like. For more info phone Emily Andrews at (514) 932-0135.

Note from me
Debbie Quigley is one of my favourite musicians. Principally an uillean piper, she is also an exceedingly sweet and musical whistle player. Her playing is never flashy but always in impeccable taste, and her knowledge of “the music” is extensive. She lives in Toronto. I think it would be worth the drive to Montreal for people in Quebec City, Ottawa or northern New England.

Tell the good woman there are people here dying to play a tune with her, it’s been too long since she’s been over

so close and yet so far. montreal is only two hours away (much less depending on who is driving) but its a thursday night and i don’t think it will be possible for me to get there, but mabey i can bribe someone into takeing a road trip

I’ve never had a workshop with her but I’ve heard her play both pipes and whistle. Lovely whistle playing. I’d drive two hours for a workshop. Actually, if she gave one in Toronto, it would take me about two hours to get there.

Just to refresh the thread and remind everyone that the workshops are this week, March 28. Steve

There is no way I can make it. Everybody I have asked about Debby Quigly has said the nicest things about her. She must be wonderful and an amazing teacher by all accounts. Too bad I’ll miss this chance to meet her.
