I have been trying to overcome nature and get my bloody whistles to play in tune, so I bought a kickin’, rockin’ tuner and set it against my whistles. My Generation in D is a lost cause, but my Susato in A is much better. Most notes are dead on (at least good enough for my purposes), and some are very sharp. The notes D and E are the worst offenders, but some simple cross fingerings and a slight adjustment to my breath fixes the problem. Quite easily, in fact. Susato has an excellent reputation, and I think it is well-earned. I can’t understand why some people insist on played cheap whistles that sound cheap, but will pay four dollars for coffee at Starbucks that tastes like that same cheap whistle sounds. Then again, what do I know? I also used to believe Bill Clinton wasn’t a dirty, rutting pig…
