Whistle Stands?

Made Some really nice wood display stands for some whistles today… let me know what you think, and share some pics if anyone else has some nice ones!

This one is Oregon Myrtle wood burl

This is a great Maple burl

I like 'em. That’s a great way to take a “flawed” piece of wood and use the flaw as an artistic feature.

Very nice! I like the character of the wood used. The flawless stuff can get boring after a while. Those really draw your attention to them.

Those are works of art. Very impressive.

Very nice.

dont know what happend, just postet something, even a pic included, but its gone , .. anyway … again…

beautifull wood and woodwork, well done
wish id have a bandsaw

making whistlestands myself from wood and stone, …
no time to search for the pic again, anyway … i wonder why there are so few nice whistles-stands to find, mabe there is no interest?
you sell yours for a very fair price i think, do they sell well?
(by the way mine are not to sell, make them just for me, otherwise i maybe would buy one of yours one day)

I think you have answered your own question, GW. Whistle stands are easy to make and many folks make their own. It is also a simple matter to re-purpose everyday objects to use as whistle stands and whistle receptacles - some have been quite imaginative. There are a few threads over the years on the subject.

Do find those picture of your stands and share them with us.

i bought a few fancy ceramic vases from a local hobby store, added a plush lining (cut from the same store) and 11 seconds later had a few nice whistle holders for $5-6 each.
they are not nearly as nice as Nick’s functional art, but I can’t do anything like that.
i also leave them in the vase in the sleeve or plastic case bottom as to not scratch eachother. there is a surprisingly sharp edge on the bottom of many whistles.

i did search for threads about whistlestands but didnt find any, and this one i found last night just by accident

wouldt it be nice to have a thread full of pictures,…maybe this one, or a new one (“whistle and flute stand picture thread” or so)

what i found is a Thread about collections but the pictures there show mostly a lot of whistles on a bedsheet or so but not in stands or somehow else nicely presentet

whats a plush lining? do you have pictures?

i have a nice looking smal empty bottle (sanbitter italian drink) on my desk, near the monitor, and if i realy have to type or do whatever people do at their desks, ill leave a whistle in that bottle for a short time untill ill grab it again and forget to work

Just click here!

That should give you something to look at. Unfortunately older threads sometimes have broken links to photos. But you’ll get some good discussions on the subject.

Large mugs work well when they don’t have beer in them. The larger the mug, the better my playing after emptying 'em.

Here’s one to start with https://forums.chiffandfipple.com/t/my-new-whistle-stand/68658/1

Best wishes.

wow thats a lot
just did check out the first 20 threads … enough for now

anyway here comes my
Wooden Whistlestand out of Mopani-Root
just have a quik made photo (made with pocketcam)

just the pure stand, flutes have to be added

and i still think an own thread with all those pictures…would have been nice

Very nice stand. Mack Hoover had a few stands that he made for his whistles out of weathered wood. I can’t put my finger on any pictures though. It’s a great idea.

Nothing stopping you from doing that. I gave you the jumpstart. You could always solicit folks to post pictures here too. Every time we discuss this topic folks come out of the woodwork, so to speak, to show off their stands.

Beautiful and creative!

I love the contrast between the raw, natural, earthey, natural shape/color of the stands, and the machined, straight lines, hitech materials of the whistles. It shows off the beauty of both stands AND whistles!
