I was fortunate to catch Altan in Nashville this past Sat.(3/23/02). It was a great show. Although the whistle isn’t really a featured instrument in their music, Cíaran Tourish (fiddle player) used a beautiful wooden low whistle on a few songs. It sounded great. It didn’t look long enough to be a low D; I’d guess it was maybe a low A or G. Anyone out there know what it is and/or who makes it?
I don’t think anyone should tell him until he promises that he and his pal Loki won’t go anywhere near St.Michael’s Church in Red Bank, NJ!!!

Both whistles were made by Michael Grinter of Australia. I’d say the lower one was probably in F.

BTW, “The Blue Idol”, their new album, is great!
