whistle picture

solves the “what to do with the pinkie finger” question, dunnit!

Nope, wrong hand! :stuck_out_tongue:

I read somewhere that it is hard to get four-fingered hands to ‘look right’ on some cartoon characters and that that was why Micky Mouse wore gloves and the Simpsons have three fingers.

yup, it’s a pain to get them looking right

also it’s much quicker with only three

Who is the only character on The Simpsons to have five fingers on a hand?

The Simpsons characters, like almost all animated characters, have only four fingers on each hand.Only one Simpsons character has ever had five fingers. “God” is the only character portrayed on The Simpsons to ever have five fingers.

How cool is that!

The one on the left looks like it has the blade on the wrong end of the window.

The one on the right seems to have taped his whistle to the back of his hand.

And the other doesn’t have a blade at all.

This is a pet peeve of mine–how frequently artists draw/paint/sculpt musical instruments all wrong. I’m not talking about making changes for artistic reasons or to reduce technical difficulties eg simplifying the hardware of a Boehm flute on a sculpture. I’m talking about outright WRONG representations. I’ve seen paintings of flute players with the hands reversed or both hands on the same side of the flute. Violin scrolls that curl the wrong way. Stringed instruments with the wrong number of strings. Etc. You’d think artists would familiarize themselves with their subjects, but apparently this isn’t always the case.

Evidence that we’re NOT made in His image? :stuck_out_tongue:

It peeves me, too, but it’s been going on for centuries. Medieval art produced some outlandish representations of instruments. Fortunately, there are exceptions, like the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.

You’d also think composers composing for an instrument would familiarize themselves with their subjects. I’ve found that this, apparently, isn’t always the case either.

I have been there.

too schort

Reminds me of the mistakes in the Book of Kells, where people were sometimes drawn with two right hands or feet, and I think some had missing or extra fingers (I’m strugging to find an exampl online though…)

Yer Men & women in Egyptian hieroglyphics tended to have two left or two right feet.
The other day my wife and I were watching the boxed set of Firefly, the pilot episode.
At one point yer wumman Morena Baccarin is having a wash stripped to the waist.
I was slightly puzzled to find that I was more interested in the Psaltery briefly visible in the background than I was in yer wumman. I must be getting old. :frowning:
