Hi, gang, I am applying for a small grant http://www.deadwoodjam.com/grant.htm ($500) from a local foundation, Jammin’ for the Kids, which funds projects that will help:
1.)Advance the mission of Jammin’ for Kids
2.)Expand and develop music services and/or events
3.)Benefit area citizens and/or musicians
4.)Assist and recognize area musicians
5.)Encourage projects with creative and innovative potential
6.)Increase the visibility of music in our area
In the proposal I am writing,in addition to local kids, I will also continue to send free Megs whistles overseas. We Chiff and Fippies now have a total of 18 “whistle babies” in Poland, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, the Philpines, and Thailand. Many whistles had ended up on Pine Ridge Reservation, and one (sigh) got eaten by a dog! (This was a professional adult musician here in Deadwood) I’ve been getting steady e-mail from most of these folks who got whistles, who are greatly enjoying them, and one kid in Bangkok has been recruited as a Whistlin’ Fairy Godmother, because one whistle didn’t make it to the sticks of Thailand, so I’m sending my whistle baby another whistle which she will take to the the girl in the sticks of Thailand. People ask me what I want for the whistles. other than “just pass it on.” NOTHING! I want or need nothing except those cheap whistles you guys want to get rid of! I may ask for some help from you guys to help document what we’ve been doing here, and have printed out many threads as part of my documentaiton for the grant. We’ve been doing good here, people!
Now, I think keeping this as simple as possible is best, it’s been working really well without big bruhaha criterion to determine who gets a whistle, they’ve been given unconditionally, but maybe some suggestions about age-appropriate stuff…I did get a box of cheap plastic slide whistles from Oriental Trading Company for the little kids who just want to make noise…Also, if any Rocky Mountain whistlers want gas money to come and visit and teach a “master class,” well, I can budget that in too! You guys may have to “fire” me in a year, though, becasue this could get too damn big for me to handle right, but for now the more whistles, the merrier and more means to make music! So, I still need whistles, which count as “In-kind” contributions, and Thom at the Whistle shop can help with new whistles so you don’t have to worry about packaging themn up and sending them…but, if you have some you don’t like and can bear to part with, I’ll take those, too! I am now down to my OBriain Improved, and I love that sucker, so all of my other whistles are gone, too!
Sorry for the disorganized ramble, but my toungue feels too big for my mouth and my lips are numb from busking on the streets of Deadwood!
I still love a little chaos here and there, but think for the purposes of the grant, I have to organize it a little more…anyone want to help with the grant writing? I’m not really all that good at it!

If you can help, I can send you a MS Word version of the grant application, with my rough draft, and hopefully, there’s some whistle fanatic out there that can help with this grant-writing thing. Oh, and if anyone wants to know how some of out other “whistle babies” are doing, let me know and I’ll forward some “progress reports” via e-mail!
Priss in Bangkok and Anthony Hor Choon Wai in Malaysia are doing fine with their whistles, Anthony’s getting better thanks to Chih who’s been inspiring him, and he is already eyeing her low D!
