My Dixon Trad in brass developed a leak between the tube and the mouthpiece somehow. The mouthpiece comes off now and doesn’t seal quite right. I have a lesson an a few hours and I need this to be working! Help!
How about tape? You can put some tape on the inside to make it a more snug fit. You can also possibly wrap tape around the outside of the join to stop leaking. Both, if necessary!
Specifically, Teflon/PTFE plumber’s tape. Should be part of every whistle player’s kit.
Thank you! I know this is in the archives somewhere but couldn’t find quickly. Thanks a million!
Some of the Dixon models have an O-ring or 2, so check to see if one has been unseated.
No, no o-rings. This is a non-tuneable model. I’m not sure why the head decided to come off, but it’s not supposed to do that.
I got the thinnest teflon tape I could since the head is tight fit…only to discover or create a crack in the plastic. The teflon seals it for now, but I think a new whistle is in my near future.
Yep, the crack is probably why it came loose in the first place. Just bind the crack with a few wraps of black electrician’s tape, and you should be good to go. One of my Dixon Trads is done up exactly like this, and it’s been fine for years.
This is a non-tuneable model.
Well, it’s tunable of course by moving the head. ![]()
It is tunable now…it wasn’t for the first 6 years I owned it. ![]()
Ok. Wish me luck, everybody. Heading out to my first formal whistle lesson. After playing a handful of hours spread out over a decade I suppose I’m due. I’m betting I’ll learn as much about whistles in this hour as in the entire preceeding decade.
my first formal whistle lesson.
Good luck! Don’t forget to shine your shoes and adjust your cummerbund.
