Whistle Elbow

Over time my right elbow has become very sore. Last night a light bulb went on inside of my head, and I realized why. I’m one of those people who creates a lot of condensation when I whistle and after each tune or two, I flick the moisture out of the fipple with a few pretty hard and quick downward waves of the whistle like someone would flick or wave a match to put it out. I practice for an hour or so almost every day and that adds up to a lot of flicking and a painful case of whistle elbow. I realize that this sounds very strange.

I think that I will blow the moisture out from now on.

Hi David,

I used to do that also, and stopped when I found out you could just cover the window and blow to clear the windway. I was playing mostly Low Ds too-and a Chieftain Gold too, at that-weighing in at one pound! That one could do some damage in a short time.

Some people have said that they suck the moisture out when they play-to me, that’s an emergency move when you can’t stop in mid play! I haven’t tried that yet, sure it works…but I’m in no hurry to try it!
