"Whistle & Drum" & O'Briain Tweaked whistl

Well, just a quick note to let people know how happy I am with my most recent WhOA crisis. Last week I ordered two whistles from Whistle & Drum, a tweaked O’Briain D and Eb.

First of all, the delivery was quick, only 4-5 days. I guess you can expect good stuff from Whistle & Drum, their online system is great and easy to use.

Second, the whistles are just… well… gorgeous… It’s all a matter of taste really, I already have an O’Briain but it’s almost two years old and dying… The ones I ordered are just amazing, they play exactly the way I want a whistle to sound. It’s very stable, has some chiff, it’s responsive, and very easy to play. I’m in love with my Eb. It’s the pefect whistle for me. I have got the loudest whistles for sessions, but in quiet environment I’m sure to play those all the time (okay, my Sindt will still be around).

Anyway, I’ll probably post a set using my new Eb. Sometimes I think it’s crazy to pay 25$ for a tweaked whistle that’s worth 5$, but in the end it’s the only way I can get the sound I want…

By the way, US money is 10% less expensive than EURO. I think Whistle & Drum is the most logical way to get an O’Briain.

I want to second what Azalin said and add my own endorsement. Blayne is a friend and I’ve seen the Whistle and Drum HQ in Greeley. (I barely made it through the tight security - down Darcy) He’s got eveything organized and ready to go. The quality of the website he’s put together is a testimony to that. You couldn’t ask for a better guy in the whistle and drum biz.

That Eb is a great little whistle. Nice strong lower octave with no buzzing or tendency to slip up an octave unexpectedly. It seems to have all the strengths of its D sibling without any of the weaknesses. Apparently the mouthpiece is perfectly matched to the Eb tube, because if it is switched to a Feadog or Generation D tube, it doesn’t play nearly as well.
