Whistle Dilemma

Yesterday I went to the House of Musical Traditions to look at, try, maybe purchase a low D. I loved the sound of the Overton but I had trouble playing it. I couldn’t reliably seal the holes. Decided to wait a while.

Now the dilemma. I played a Sweetheart Rosewood Pro. I absolutely loved the sound of this whistle and the way it played. I have been looking at the new Birch laminate model but they didn’t have one. Do the two sound and play similar? Is there any difference besides the wood used. I liked the idea that the laminate needs less care. Any comments would be appreciated.

BTW I did buy a Dixon G A really nice whistle.

I tried one of the laminate ones and liked it a lot. A very good value for the money. You can also get the body with a piccolo/fife head which is REALLY cool. One of these days I plan a roadtrip to visit Walt and see their shop, and I intend to pick up a fife then.

Thanks Paul. Of course what I really want is a Busman but I don’t have the money right now. But it is on the list. I had never played a wooden whistle and the Rosewood blew me away. There really is a different sound.
