Whistle comparison: Old Syn, New Syn, Oak, and Burkes

In this comparison I play the reel The Laurel Bush at a moderate tempo on the following 5 whistles:

–Syn D prototype (early model)
–Syn D (current model)
–Oak D (for “inexpensive” whistle control track)
–Burke Brass Pro narrow bore D
–Burke AlPro session D

This is to illustrate the differences between the early Syn and the current model, and to compare it against a common inexpensive whistle (the Oak), and high end whistles (the Burkes).

In order that the minute differences of timbre (particularly between the Burkes) would be audible, this recording has no noise reduction or cleanup at all. Thus, you may need to turn your volume up just a bit when playing it, and please forgive the hum, as it is the sound of the hard drive travelling up the mic cord. This is a 900-k MP3 file.
