whistle clogging

I started to have a problem with clogging last week on whistles that never had a problem before. I think it is a posture problem. If I hold the whistle more horizontal, I get less clogging.

I was starting to look all bent over like the rock carvings of Kokopili. I guess holding the whistle vertically allows more saliva to drool into it. When I stand up, I hold the whistle more horizontally than when I play sitting down. The problem was worse when I was sitting and that is the only difference I noticed. Anybody got any other ideas?

Try keeping your head and chin up - looking forward. When you face your head down the saliva runs down also. Keeping your head straight usually causes the saliva to remain in your mouth under your tongue or to slide down your throat. I had this problem when playing the chormatic harmonica. Once I kept my head up I became a relatively “dry” player. I try to keep my head up playing the flute for the same reason.

Give it a go!
