Whistle Case

I kinda like the symbolism of cases designed to hole instruments of (potential) war being used to hold instruments of peace!

Heheheheh, whistles of mass destruction

I got one yesterday. Brilliant.
I ordered a Low C - even though I haven’t got one
Don’t tell anyone, but my low Bb fits in diagnally,
not in the pockets, but under the middle divider.
I could dismantle it, but I’m lazy.
Great product

A while back a C&F member suggested the Saw Scabbard from Duluth Trading – you know, the BucketBoss guys. I bought one, and it has 3 low Ds, 2 As, 3 Bbs, 1 low G, 1 low F, 2 high Ds, 2 high Cs, plus room for a tuner, a metronome, some staff paper, etc. It’s actually designed to hold hand saws, but works great for whistles: waterproof, ballistic nylon, a carry handle, and all for only $30!

Go to www.duluthtrading.com and type Saw Scabbard in the search box.

For those who carry along only a moderate collection, there are these http://www.mollenhauer.com/shop/default.html?target=p_161.html&lang=de

Now, please send the kids to bed!

I got an old briefcase for $2 at a second hand store, it holds all my whistles perfectly, even has compartments for papers/bookets, cds, tape recorder, etc. The low Ds have to be taken apart to fit properly, but that’s not a big deal. It allows me to keep all my whistle stuff in one place. I also get to look important, carrying a briefcase around.

Keep an eye on yardsales, second hand stores, etc. You might just find what you’re looking for…

I found a nicely tooled leather seat blank at a yard sale a couple of decades ago, and immediately saw the usefullness, LOL!

I bought a sack of leather scraps from the local hardware store and proceeded to roll it into a nifty deep stiff quiver with a long thong strap to let me carry it over my shoulder or hang from the peg head of my bass. A small circle of leather sewn on to form the base. It holds my small collection of 8 or so whistles easily, and has served me well. Of course, now that my youngest is getting into whistling too, I’ll have to find something for her to use, as the quiver is getting too full.

I also play in a band here in town and sit-in with several others as well. LOTS of travel in the mix. I just found my ‘dream case’ for my uilleann pipes and I will shortly be fitting it to hold my O’Riordan whistles as well as a microphone or two and cable. You can see some photos on this thread in the uilleann pipe board:

For under $25 I found it EXTREMELY customizable and the price was just right. By the by, it locks and has both a hand carrying handle and a shoulder strap. Very sturdy, but not bulky in the least. If you didn’t have a practice set of pipes to haul around, you could easily pack several dozen whistles in the thing. I would think both high and low (D to D) would be able to fit with little adjustment.

Got an idea while updating on this thread.

Why not a suitcase with several layers of foam padding that contain cutouts for each whistle?

I may try that on a smaller scale for my currently small collection.
