Whistle case... brag alert

I had to share pictures of my new whistle case. I bought a Doolin pocket whistle when wifey and I were in Ireland this past spring and while my duster holds everything in the world, the whistle always rattled.

Now it doesn’t since wifey made this case today…

As a stitcher myself, I’ve made simple “socks” or “mittens” for my whistles in order to toss them together into a box, roll-up bags to hold several, polishing cloths from old flannel sheets, hats of various designs, etc., etc. Knowing that her case was fabicrated “from the inside out”, it blows my mind trying to figure out the original pattern.

Please convey my “hats off” to your “wifey”.

Actually the lining is a cheat. The part in red only goes into the bag about an inch.

She has done fully lined bags for me in the past by sewing two pieces of fabric together expect for one corner. Through that hole she turns the bag inside out and then hand sews the last bit.

Using that method I’d then sew up the middle to form the two pockets shown above, cut and sew the button hole and finish by attaching a button.

One thing you can’t see from the pictures is that there’s enough room in the right pocket for a rolled up bit of sheet music. I’ll be using that to carry around whatever I happen to be working on.

What’s a Doolin pocket whistle?

Thanks,
Meg

The pocket part should be easy

It’s a whistle that I bought in Kenmare this past spring. I don’t recall the name of the shop but they had several brass whistles labelled “‘Doolin’ pocket whistle” and comes in two pieces.

Being afflicted with Whoa I couldn’t resist trying one. It’s a decent whistle, although I did have to tweak it a bit.

I tried to buy a two-piece Doolin a couple of months back from Shanna Quay, but they are no longer made. If you see one, grab it, because they’re going to get rare.

The Clare 2-piece is still available and is also a nice pocket size model, though again a little tweaking would improve it.

Thanks guys! I did “get” the pocket concept in “pocket whistle”. I suppose I didn’t state my query properly.

I was curious about where you might be able to see one, where they come from etc. Thank you for the completeness of your answers!!
