Whistle Aerobics

As much as I would like to play all day,
(work really interferes with my whistling habit)
But in the effort to still work on breathing and lung and diaphram strength and conditioning I entertain myself with this lil excercise,
Take a deep breath, as deep as you can, and hold for the count of 5,
Slowly… and in a controlled manner exhale as much as possible,
breath normally for a few breaths as needed :astonished:
then repeat 5 times,
do this every half hour or as you remember, relax the shoulders more after each breath
great for stress, and feels nice too, :boggle:
I reckon it nearly has to be beneficial in the long term for better breath control.
Just thought i would share

If anyone else has conditioning excercises i would love to hear them

David

Excellent tip! I’m always looking for ways to practice whistle at work without being too blatant about it

There are 15 breathing exercises listed at:

http://www.hsu.edu/faculty/bucknej/Resources/Trumpet%20Talk/Arnold_Jacobs.htm

Most seem valuable for all wind players, not just trumpets.

I walk everyday so use this one often:
Exercise No. 2

  1. This exercise is done while walking
  2. Inhale through the nose for 5 steps – a slow, smooth inhalation of large quantity
  3. Exhale through the nose for 5 steps
  4. After a week, perform the same exercise in 3 steps

Bill,
what a great resource!!
thanks very much, thats going to be very useful
