Many years ago I played flute, so I got an idea and turned my Burke D whistle around to the side and blew air across the window while holding it like a flute with all holes covered.
It played!
I put a piece of tape over the mouth piece and it was even better!
Try it, just for fun.
Heh, I tried something similar blowing accross the first hole. It worked, everyone turned, then laughed, then moved on. Ever seen “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead”? I was having flashbacks to that movie at about that moment.
Often this works with whistles.
Suggests that many whistles
could be flutes.
