Well I’m into making my first whistle and I’m going to need a tuner, of course. I checked over on the Whistlemakers site and saw one reference to a Korg CA-30. Is this a prefered make and model for tuning these whistles or are there other/better ones?

It all depends on what you are aiming for. I do own and use a Korg and it does the job pretty well and for a reasonable price. There are dozens of similar tuners on the market. The advantage I see to these is that they are portable and can be used anywhere. There are certainly better hardware tuners. Korg makes better tuners - more features and options. Sabine and Peterson make very nice tuners but they can get expensive.
You could also look into software based tuners but they require you to provide a decent microphone and the associated gear to get the sound into your computer and to the software. Of course if you use a computer with a built in mic you can just download the software. I just prefer to use a mic with a good dynamic range.
Thanks for your response. I don’t want to go with the software based tuners (in fact I didn’t know they made them) so I guess I’m left with hardward tuners. I need one that is reasonably accurate for a beginner’s use and reasonable cost wise.
Probably I don’t know enough yet to ask the right questions and perhaps my question was a little vague.
No, I don’t think you were at all vague. I was probably being obtuse. A Korg CA-30 or a similar tuner will work. I won’t say more for fear of putting you off your task. Make those whistles!
