which low d whistle and which book?

i just borrowed a susato low d whistle from one of my friends. i’m thinking about buying one but i don’t know what kind of whistle 2 buy or what kind of songbooks to buy to play out of w/my low whistle. if u have any input as to what books or whistles i should get please tell me. thanx

As a first Low-D, I’d reccommend a Dixon tunable Low-D. You can get it over the net through Thom Larson at The Whistle Shop as your second, and possibly last low-d I’d recommend an Overton.

As for books. I’m not sure which to recommend as a first book, because that depends a lot on your music background. However, I can recommend a second book for the Low-D: Melbay Publishing’s, 110 Ireland’s Best Slow Airs and the accompanying 2 CD set. Also available through The Whistle Shop.

This will give you a good start. The CD’s have all the tunes in the book played through once.

The above should get you to the Low Whistle Tutor book at the Whistle Shop. This is one of the better tutors for not only low D but high D whistle, that I have seen.

hey,
i guess i failed to mention that i have been playing a regular susato d whistle for about a year. the one that i borrowed from my friend is also a susato, but a low d. i’m picking it up pretty fast so i don’t know if i need the tutorial book that comes in that package deal at the whistle shop. if anybody else has any input i’d appreciateit. thanx 4 ur help.
