i like a lot his album from 2001- ‘story so far…’
it was very brave album then, only flute and on several tracks with denis cahill on bouzouki …
as i know, he finished his study in belfast (he is mechanical engineer) and he went to usa.
last as i know, he was in chicago…
does some of members know is he still active… (sessions, etc…)
he is from my point of view great player, with lovely tone, and lovely repertoire ( northern tunes) and it is really shame is he finish with active playing and recording …

Don’t know. Found reference to him at a New York event in 2010.
Apart from being one of my absolute all-time favorite flute players, John is also a good friend. I was recently exchanging e-mails with him. He’s now somewhere in New York state, a couple of hours away from Albany.
To my knowledge he has no plans of making a new album. He didn’t really even plan on making the first one. Let’s all hope and pray that he does grace us with another album though. His tune selection is impeccable and is style beyond reproach.
I’ll second Phillip’s comments. Great player.
Gee, if Creavan is close to Albany, he should think about moving a little further north… across the border to eastern Ontario. We’d love to have him up here.![]()

Me, three. I just got his CD last year and was bowled over by it. Terrific playing, totally honest, made every tune sound brilliant. Hope he’s doing well oop North and having fun!
thank you all for your answers…
but, girls and boys… , he is now at your part of the world, so convience him to make something new …

I was just thinking I’d have to plant that seed in his head. ![]()
One of my favorite flute albums and players of all time. Lovely CD, I was listening to it yesterday.
Hey Marin! How’s life?
Eric
I quite agree. I was just thinking I need to pull it out again, but I’ve been listening to the “new” Paddy Carty album (the one with Conor Tully). Perhaps I’ll pull John’s album out tomorrow.
He lives in Pearl River, NY last time I played with him, which was a couple months back. He sounded great, of course.
Best,
