Thanks, everyone for the compliments (I’ll take 'em anyway I can get 'em), but that’s not really the reason for this thread. While credit for the Chiffy Christmas tunes goes to Alan, I just thought that people would like to contribute some of their favorite holiday tunes is all. I enjoy listening to other people play the whistle. If they are people who I know from the board then it makes it that much nicer. For instance, if I heard Walden’s original air without knowing who did it, it would still be nice. But feeling like Walden is a friend from the board makes it that much better. Plus, the Chiffy tunes don’t seem to have the cut-throat, judgmental atmosphere that has always kept me from posting on clips & snips. I dunno . . . this is just my 2 cents worth, I guess . . .

There are a finite number of widely-recognizable Xmas songs and its pretty small. That’s what occurred to me as I was trying to think of some new tune to contribute. I guess I could do “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer” but the melody is not that memorable and without the words, well…
Can you do “Children, Go Where I Send Thee”?
I think I will contribute “The Sans Day Carol” this year, and another one which I haven’t decided on yet.

Eleven tunes at the time of this posting.
I was looking to get a handle on an old Jean Ritchie tune, Christ Was Born in Bethlehem, that I vaguely remembered from decades ago.
I found it at [u]this Web site[/u], where I was quite amused to find an album of carols accompanied by the following:
“Warning: sound clips may contain explicit lyrics”. :roll:
I mean, really…
There are some nice, relatively rare, tunes there, though, if you’re a little burned out on the (otherwise perfectly good) songs that are blasted out from every store in every mall.
I very much like Mike and Peggy Seeger’s American Folk Songs for Christmas. I think this link is to the CD, but there’s a book too.

Actually, Will – it’s a great idea. But I really do need an external mike for my laptop, which I didn’t know until this week. If you think We Three Kings would work well on the Dixon Mezzo A, you ought to heard Mary, Did You Know on my new Dixon Low G. That’s a great song on the whistle!

Hey, Judy. Yeah, I know what you mean about no mike. I had the same problem. Actually, I had the mike – it’s just that my comuputer doesn’t recognize it for some reason. Then it occured to me that I had video editing hardware installed on the pc, and I video taped myself playing the tunes and that’s how I got them on board.
I almost got the Dixon Low G instead of the A. I’d love to hear your tune on the low G. Maybe sometime after you get your mike you can send me a copy.

I have both. Since they both have the same bore, the A seems to be louder and requires more breath in the upper octave. The advantage to this is that the mouthpiece that came with my G is a little better than the one that came with my A, so I use it on both whistles.
