..what are you listening to?

I ask because I was just listening to a CD of DeDannan, then I put on a CD of Altan and honestly, I couldn’t tell the difference!!! I thought, ‘Man, this is sooo boring…’

So then I put on my ‘Best of David Bowie’ DVD and sat for an hour and a half engrosed in some of the finest Glam Rock that has been produced…

So when I’m not listening to ITM, I listen to…

Crosby Stills Nash & Young,
Bob Dylan,
Jethro Tull,
(I had the pleasure of meeting Dave Pegg a few years ago backstage at the Woodford Festival here in Brisbane when he was out with Fairport Convention - we were on the same billing as them and Lunasa - what a treat!!!)

I was on the road most of the day…
Led Zeppelin I is in the CD player and I switched between 2 radio stations, Classic Rock and Oldies.

In my computer, I have a demo CD of some original music that a friend dropped off for me to listen to. It sounds a bit like Huey Lewis and the News. He’s playing drums on it and their band is looking to get some local radio station air play.

My all-time favorite rock band is Love Tractor from Athen, GA of REM and B52’s locale.

I also enjoy In Tua Nua, an 80’s rock band with a few U2-type licks out of Dublin with uilleann pipes (Brian O’Briain) and violin (more violin than fiddle played by Lovely Previn, Andre’s daughter). Anybody know anything about this band and piper?

Just curious but is not very hard to learn to play pipes if you find the music boring

Why? There’s Irish music and there’s Irish music. When I put on a recording of Planxty, I know it’s planxty. It could not be anyone else, same for Bothy band. When I put on Sean Potts, I know it’s him and not Robbie Hannan, or Ennis.

Trouble is, many contempary Irish small groups seem to have lost that thing which sets them apart from others. Hence having listened to DeDannan (a great band) and then straight away putting on Altan (also a great band) and finding that the two were near inseparable in terms of style, accompnyment and rhythm (on those particular tracks) , I simply had had enough of that particular sameness and decided David Bowie was going to do it for me that day.

So at that particular point in time, I was incredibly bored by seeming monotomy of style and simply wished to put something else on.
