At about the 12:30 mark Mr. Galway introduces a guy who’s name I can only make out to be ‘Vin Garwick.’ Anyway the guy talks about adding ‘welly’ into jigs and reels.
What does that mean?
Wellies are knee-high rubber boots, which are very useful while navigating sodden pasture country. Because of this, wellies are associated very strongly with rural life in Britain and Ireland. They feature prominently in mean-spirited jokes about rubes out in the sticks.
I suspect he means, in a self-deprecating manner, that he will try to play in a down-home, traditional style.
He sounds like an interesting character…

Giving something “Welly” means to put lots of energy into it, so giving a tune “welly” would mean play it with loads of energy ie speed, bounce, volume etc.
We use that expression a lot in the UK.

It’s Vin Garbutt, who although he plays a mean Clarke’s is actually much better known as a singer and songwriter. Great performer. gas character altogether.

RE: Vin Garbutt a.k.a. Vin Garwick or vinegar butt- (Thanks for the clarification Stevie!) I would have never put the voice and face together. What a shocker!
