What's up with these?

We just went shopping for a small table and chairs for the kitchen in our new house, and nearly all we could find were like these:

What’s with the high chairs all of a sudden? What’s the appeal? I hate sitting on those, and I’d imagine that for families with small children they’d pose a danger.

They’re a nuisance, I would think. I suppose those would be things for a spot other than the primary kitchen table.

We’ve got three tall chairs at a kitchen counter, and that’s where I sit as much as not, but not good for the main table.

I’ve seen those chairs for bars in lots of stores/catalogs, but not with a tall “bar” table before.

Perhaps they becoming this era’s version of this-

My daughter, granddaughter and I recently took my mother out furniture shopping.

In one store my daughter was eyeing one of those tall “bar” style table and chair sets when the lady that owned the store came over and recommended she look at table and chair sets of a more conventional height.
She said the “bar” style looks cool in the store but when people get them home they realize how impractical they are.

Yes, you can stand comfortably at them but should you want to pull up a chair in addition to the four that came with the set, that’s an additional special purchase
because usually all your other chairs (and folding chairs in particular) are the shorter conventional height.

Myself? My only experience with them has been in bars.
Usually I’ll have one beer, I get up to visit the lady’s room forgetting how high up I’m sitting, and I always fall off & hit the floor.
It never fails. It happens every time.

To which the bartender automatically stops my getting any more beers that night.
