I wonder if any forum users could help supply further information or comments on these instruments?
A half-set of Uilleann Pipes and a set of small pipes I believe, I think they’re both African Blackwood with brass ferrules and artificial ivory mounts, leather bags/bellows/straps.
I know the Uilleann Pipes were bought at Dartmoor Folk festival 8/9 years ago and have only been lightly played, but I don’t know the maker and can’t find a maker’s name marked. I presume the small pipes came from the same source.
Can anyone suggest who made them? Perhaps you were at the festival and remember or maybe you might recognise the work?
How can I tell what key they play in? I’d presumed they’d be in D, but am told not necessarilly. (Someone said if I covered first two holes and back one and my digituner indicated A then the instrument would be in D - is this right?)
Finally is there a player/maker in Essex who might have a look at them to make sure all is OK - also any advice on reasonable price to expect for them would be greatly appreciated.
