what's the (current) deal with Green Linnet?

Last year somebody bought me a CD of Irish women singers, and it was from Green Linnet. I know they had some issues of not paying their artists and stuff…but since it was a gift I listened to the CD a lot and I loved it.

Cherish the Ladies were on it, and their song “Green Crow, the Rushes Oh” or something like that was so pretty. Pretty whistle playing on the CD, too.

Now, though, I’ve lost the CD and I want to buy another one. I probably will because I loved every song so much…but I’m wondering if the situation ever got any better?

I was able to find this article from the February 9 - 15, 2005 edition of Irish Echo online:
http://www.irishecho.com/newspaper/story.cfm?id=13686

Here’s a quote from the article:

On the status of lawsuits filed against Green Linnet by Moloney, Altan, and Cherish the Ladies, and arbitrations filed by Madden and Ivers, Bob Donnelly, a lawyer for the Green Linnet Five, said: “We’re in the discovery phase. I know there’s a date certain for the three cases in the New York State Supreme Court, and I believe there’s a date certain for one of the two arbitrations. I expect these will take place before the new year.”

About the possibility of auditing Green Linnet Records, Donnelly added: “We requested a formal audit, and we’ve hired auditors to do one. Chris Teskey [Green Linnet’s chief operating officer] always told me that their books and records are open to us any time. Well, now’s the time to prove it.”

Best wishes,
Jerry

Gee, this is disappointing to hear! I’ve really enjoyed ordering from them because they have such great artists. Now, until I hear more, I’m going to feel guilty about making any further CD purchases from Green Linnet. Darn. :frowning:

If anybody else knows how it’s been resolved, tell us.

Good to get the update. I’ve also stopped odering because of these issues.

For those who might not be familiar with the basics behind this issue, here’s the link to the discussion we had about this some time ago:

Thank you, Susan.

There’s no need to feel deprived. Well in some cases anyway. You can often order direct from the artist. I don’t see any reason not to order this way—you send them the money.

Fwiw, I’ve found that there’s a lot of good music available on www.emusic.com, including Cherish the Ladies, Danu, etc.

I went to the site in the first place because they’re basically in the business of selling mp3 files, with no tricksy proprietary filtering copy-restricting patentened only runs on a certain platfrom stuff… but once there, I’ve been pretty happy with the selection in the irish music area. Enough that I actually paid money when my free downloads were used up.

… of course, that’s probably got to do with an agreement with Shanachie, and until rights expire and revert to artists, Green Linnet titles are probably going to not be there, or
anywhere.
