Here’s something I’ve been wondering about…Since many message boarders are afflicted with WhOA, (and you know who you are) do any of you have a method to your madness? How do you get around to playing all the wonderful whistles, little and big, that have been accumulating about the house? Does one whistle get major play-time while the others sulk in a drawer muttering “Not Fair!” I have read of favorite whistles going to school in backpacks, sitting on passenger car seats, riding around in pants pockets (ouch!) What of the “others”?
In my house, there is a little table in our breakfast room that I keep our recently acquired Dixon D on, along with a couple sheets of tunes. There is also a little wooden box that someone made in wood shop, which we have filled with our “cheapies” ~ We have 2 music stands in there, because that’s where my son practices his French horn and I play my flute (lots of windows). So we keep all our music books piled up in there. This way, whoever wants to sit at the table and do homework or read can pick up a whistle for a few minutes as the mood strikes them.
I keep my Dixon low whistle in my underwear drawer ~ that way, I see it every day and practice my piper’s grip (I have a very large underwear drawer, because I also suffer from P.A.D. or Panty Acquisition Disorder
)
I usually have my FAVORITE brass Burke on the computer desk, because that’s where I spend a lot of time, and because that’s my favorite whistle, so I want to play it a lot.
My other Burke I keep in the kitchen, because that’s another room I frequent a lot, and because that’s my second most favorite whistle so I play it when I’m spending time in the kitchen.
HOWEVER, with a couple more whistles on their way to our house, I am starting to see that there could be a problem trying to get around to playing them all equally! WHAT TO DO???
I guess I’ve been a Mom too long, the concept of “sharing” and “taking turns” is totally ingrained…
As if I really believe that these whistles have personalities and would care about such things…
