What was that noise?

I thought folks on this forum might get a kick out of this -

My current primary interests in ITM are whistle and flute, so most of my solo CDs are of those instruments. But I like the pipes - one of the reasons I don’t push that like too hard is that I’m afraid of being sucked in.

So I was listening to a CD I picked up from the bargain bin - “Irish Pipes, Flutes, and Tinwhistles” or some such. And my wife walked into the room, listened for a moment, did a double-take, and asked me “what is that noise?”. I looked at her with some confusion - “What do you mean?”, I asked. “That droning noise!” she replied. “It’s an Irish bagpipe - they’re SUPPOSED to sound like that.” “Oh. Are you sure?”

(It was as a track of Bill Ochs playing some jigs - Bill’s playing is much less identifiably “pipe-y” than some; very quiet drones. For some reason, she thought it was the cat joining in.)

I guess I should keep on with the whistle and flute.

Speaking of what was that noise…my wife heard me practicing popping the high e, f and g notes a few weeks ago and came in to the room to see if I was all right because she heard some strange noises coming from there. I told her it was supposed to sound like that, and she said “yeah, right”. :roll:

Last week we had a small pipers meeting.
Some people came to look and listen to the pipes.
When i was honking away on the regs i heard some little boy say “hear that dad? it’s like car horns” :smiley:

Do you mean like height challenged types? How tall were the pipers?
