What tunes do you want to hear on the CD?

Looking for suggestions of tunes to make the cut to CD. My CDs can hold 80 minutes. So nominate your favorites! (You don’t have to be requesting a CD to give suggestions)

If you are requesting a CD and you have some absolute favorites you want on there, email me and let me know, I’ll put it into the database I’ve got going.

Bri, Tom, you know what you’re getting already, but feel free to make general nominations.

–Beth

I’ll have to go over the tunes on mine first (data) and see which ones stand out. I simply don’t have the time/bandwidth to download them all to my computer now! :frowning:

I’ll let ya know in a couple of weeks.

B~

You decide, Beth, you’ve probably listened to them more than anybody with all your work. Definitely John Ryan’s…South Wind…Off to California…lots of the jigs…can’t think of them all right now (and I’d have to vote for Danny Boy since I think it’s priceless and makes me laugh every time I hear it).
Thanks again for all this time and work. You’re super!
Susan

Well, I still want to hear what other people like.

And because the thread about copyright law has frightened me, any tunes we played that are published works are not going to get onto the audio CD. As far as I am aware, this includes Lord Mayo, Warlock’s Fife, Inion Ni Scannlain, Tom’s French Canadian Tune, South Wind, The Butterfly… unfortunately some of the best ones are in that pile.

If there are tunes that are public domain that I think are copyrighted, or vice versa, please let me know.

Beth,

I only want the ones that don’t sound terrible.

Seriously, though, I’ll leave it up to you. I honestly haven’t listened to all that many, since my computer’s download speed could be measured in geologic time.

The French Canadian tune, by the way, it traditional and not owned by anyone as far as I know.

Tom

Tom, if you could confirm that it would help me immensely. I made the mistake of playing it for my student yesterday and she fell in love with it - wants to play it at a talent show.

Any more info you have on the tune or the group that played it would be greatly apprecaited.

Beth,
South Wind and the Butterfly are traditional, as well. I’m sure there are groups that have recorded their versions, but the tune is traditional. I’ve seen the sheet music at tons of different web sites and it all says “traditional.”

The group that played it is called La Bottine Souriante, which Sarah tells me means “The Happy Boot.” (shrug)

I’ll try to find their website and e-mail them about the tune. I recorded it off the radio several years ago, so I’m not even sure of the name. But the web site of the radio show (prairie home companion) listed all their tunes as traditional, so you should be on safe ground.

By the way, if you come to Ten Sleep you’ll get to hear my band play the tune…wink, wink, nudge, nudge

Tom

I’m afriad I can’t possibly justify the 12 hour trip, Tom, sorry! You have no idea how tempted I am though.

HOWEVER - I am planning to go to the Grand Junction Highland Games, wink wink nudge nudge… I’ll bring you some oddly flavored jelly beans if you come!

I’ve made up a tentative audio cd playlist and as I knew it would be, it’s over by about 15 minutes, hehe. Gotta do some chopping at some point…

Can anyone ID this tune?

This is my current thinking for the audio playlist - one of these tunes has to go, I am still over by a few minutes.

I tried to get a good mix of instruments in there as well as the various vocal performers we had.

Please tell me if anything is misspelled or mislabeled. And I am trying to avoid copyright infringement, so if something is on the list that you know is copyrighted, please speak up.

Happy to report that all but one of the 13 people requesting CDs have gotten me their addresses. Those who ordered only audio cds will hopefully have them shipped next week/weekend sometime. Data CDs or both will take longer, updates when available.

It’s not too late to email me if you want some.

Edit - please note there is a small cost requested, $4 priority shipping plus $1 for each CD you want. This is to cover my expenses. I do use paypal but I can’t take credit card payments in it, only existing balances or bank account transfers. My apologies for not making that clearer before! :frowning:

That #51 is really, really pretty. Is it Stephanie playing on a low whistle? I must’ve gone home by then, as I don’t remember hearing it. If it is Stephanie (also #71), maybe Brian has her email address and you could ask her what the names of the tunes are. It’s too bad she isn’t on the board! I think she would be a great contributor.

I have asked her but she hasn’t replied yet. And yes, it’s Steph both times.

OK, unless you’ve requested something different, this is what will be on the audio CD:

02 Blackthorn Stick, Donnybrook Fair, Kesh Jig
03 Connaughtman’s Rambles, Haste to the Wedding
05 Jackson’s Favorite
06 Over the Moor to Maggie

Beth, are there links to the Connaught/Haste set on the first page somewhere? I was wanting to hear them again…

Beth,

I’m perplexed. Is it really $5 for one of these? ($4 shipping + $1 / CD)??

Also, where is the music coming from…your band?

Doc

Doc,
We had a small gathering of Irish music enthusiasts here in Salt Lake City from Utah and surrounding states a few weeks ago. The recordings are what Beth recorded on her minidisc player of the impromptu “sessions” and the fun we all had. They are in no way professional, just to remind us of the great music, memories, and fun.

OK, if you requested a CD:

Only audio: most of them are done, and people who have gotten their shipping money to me are getting them shipped very soon.

Only MP3: I have to recapture three tunes and then I will be able to finish these - the minidisc-to-computer transfer hiccupped. Hope to have these done before the 19th and ship by the end of the month.

Both - see above.

But I have only gotten the shipping money from three people so far, and this stuff is totalling about $70 (you guys total 35 cds!), so if you requested a CD and have not paid (or made alternate arrangements), please do so. You should have received an email from me the other day.
