What Tune Are You Working On?

Sean Buí
Sixpenny Money
Lorraine’s Waltz
March of the King of Laois

I’m working on tightening up a bit these days so Willie’s Single is the current entertainment.

I’m sure I heard he was married.

David

I’m trying to get my head around Ronan Browne’s version of the hornpipe “Poll Halpenny” & also the Seamus Ennis version of the reel “Jenny’s Welcome to Charlie”.
I can’t find the dots to Ronan’s version although I have found the Willie Clancy version. Not the same really.
The dots for the Ennis tune also eludes me and I especially want to know what is happening in a couple of parts of the tune where the ghost d is prevalent but with something else thrown in.
Joseph (the UK one)

Kid on the Mountain, Gander at the Pratie Hole, The Rainy Day and Repeal the Union.

Ah…Repeal of the Union! I always LOVE that tune. I suppose it’s from hearing Paddy Molony’s piping of that tune on Chieftans 7!

Lately spending a lot of time with slow airs; The Fairhaired Cassidy, May Morning Dew, The Green Fields of Amerikay. I’m not good enough to hang tough with the dance tunes yet, and I’m mostly working on finessing pitch right now, so airs do the job.

Tom Crowley’s Jig
John Ryan’s Polka
Off to California

Trying to decide what’s next…
Hag with the money or Lilting Banshee

-gary

Hag tunes are always fun.

Yes, that’s one of the versions, I’m also listening to Robbie Hannan’s version of it.

Mary had a little lamb until Mr. Bigglesworth killed it…

I’m working on Ag Criost an Siol for a worship service.

Matthew

My Bag Has a Leak
Hole in my Bellows
I’m Practicing on my Whistle

the following tunes:
Mooncoin jig
Reel Around the Sun

the gravel walks in A and G

The low Level (hornpipe) from Brian MacNamara and looking for some music for Flood’s that Brian plays after the low Level on his family album. Also Humours of Kiltyclogher (jig) from Liam O’Flynn album.

I’m still working on the old slow air “in-tune” and “the long note”

That’s a nice recording…nice regs on that one.

I learned the South West Wind, too, recently (I forget who was working on that one) off of a recording I made from Willie Week last summer of Jimmy O’Brien Moran. I love that triplet on the A…

I am planning on learning everything on the Ronan Browne/ Peadar OLoughlin cds, cause they all seem like nice easy pipey tunes. I’m starting with the Boy in the Gap and the Steampacket. (If you are coming to John’s on Sunday, Mike, we’ll have to play that one).

Justine

The Boy in the Gap’s a great tune Justine. Are you playing the two parter, or Paddy Taylor’s 3 part version? The 3 parter sounds great on the pipes.

The Gold Ring. It’s so darn long, I keep forgetting which part comes next! It’s fun though.

Jigs: Condon’s Frolics (Keenan’s Poirt an Phiobaire)
My Darling Asleep (Eliot Grasso’s Standing Room Only)

Reel: Monaghan Twig (Keenan’s Poirt an Phiobaire)

So you’re into S&M then Danny

PD.

Don’t forget Tommy Keane’s version on “The Wind Among The Reed’s” also… great CD to learn tunes from!

A Phadge.
