but when you see the video, that guy don’t need to blow the air to the bag, how come ?!?
Thanks.

Uillean pipes are fed using a bellows under the arm. Great Highland Bagpipes are blown into.

A great video to examine this pipe is Riverdance. Just fast forward to the 4th song (I think) and you’ll see Davy Spillane do a solo. You could probably rent this video at Blockbuster or ask if others have it.

lkt, check this description, short sound file and picture:
http://www.emi-premier.co.uk/commonground/mi/spillane/pipes.html

That’s interesting. According to that, Davy Spillane is the only person able to both play the pipes and make a set that is in tune. WOW! He is a multi-talented individual.

Who, The Unmentionable?

irishmeg, I really wish there have a video about the song, but they seems didn’t produce video at all…
Tony, I can not found the sound file in that site

so that guy who are carrying pipes is “Davy Spillane” ? any history about him ?!

Thanks

davy spillane is most famous for his work in the original riverdance ensemble. He plays the irish pipes AND the lowD whistle. He may just have been (one of) the reasons why there’s a run on lowD whistles nowadays.
For some time he had a website, he claims he makes his own lowDs, apparently they could be bought too, but nobody here, including Dave, ever tried out or heard of a Spillane-lowD. The whistle he plays looks very similar to the Overton whistle.
Best, Amar.

lkt,
The soundfile is accessable by pressing the speaker icon in the horizontal bar just below the pipe picture. Use the up & down arrows to select different files. If this doesn’t appear, you probably are missing a plug-in or have javascript disabled.

There is another website with more whistle and piping information:

Thanks a lot, I learn something today

For the morbidly curious, check out Sean Folsom’s website on the various species of bagpipes at http://www.hotpipes.com. It’s very informative.

For detailed information on the uilleann pipes, visit Pat D’Arcy’s uilleann obsession web page at
