I’ve seen this word in the title of a tune as well as a few other places but have no idea what it means. I suppose I could have looked it up in the dictionary but I’ve only heard the word used in an ITM context so I’l ask here.

Yup it’s a bird, here’s a picture. It’s really hard to spot but easy to identify it’s call.
Yup,I’ve heard that they can actually make themselves INVISIBLE!

I guess what I’m wondering now is why on the back of the Dubliner’s album, “A drop of the hard stuff” it says the singer has a corncrake in his voice. What does this things call sound like?
It sounds a little like a pheasant with laryngitis and corncrakes are very scarce in Ireland these days.
